70th Anniversary of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights
The 10th of December is Human Rights day, and 2018 will see a year long celebration of the 70th anniversary of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights (UDHR). This is the same year that we will be holding and following up our International Permanent Peoples Tribunal into the Human Rights Impacts of Unconventional Gas.
The importance of our website and this initiative and your contributions are expressed beautifully by Mrs Elanor Roosevelt:
“Where, after all, do universal human rights begin? In small places, close to home — so close and so small that they cannot be seen on any maps of the world. […] Unless these rights have meaning there, they have little meaning anywhere. Without concerted citizen action to uphold them close to home, we shall look in vain for progress in the larger world.” — Eleanor Roosevelt
It was after all, an Australian (H.V. Evatt) who was the President of the General Assembly of the United Nations in 1948 when the UDHR was adopted.
